Border Ecosse Car Club was founded early in the seventies by a few dedicated motoring enthusiasts with one accepted interest... motorsport and cars in general. The members faces may have changed during the last three decades but that common theme still applies. Border Ecosse at present have over 140 members including a very healthy junior section. B.E.C.C. is one of the Motor Sport Association approved motor clubs active in the Borders area with the means to enable you to participate in the motorsport activity of your choice. NAVIGATIONAL RALLIES These events are run on public roads during the hours of darkness where navigational skills are the order of the day, not speed! These rallies are run at the average speed of 30mph and usually take in a route of some 60 -70 miles. This is an ideal inexpensive way of entering motorsport using your own road car. There is a novice section in these club events with basic map reading and clues for the first timer. Free tuition is available. If you wish you can enter the many regional championships or just compete for the fun of it. These simple tests usually take place on spacious tarmac or grass areas where car driving skills come to the fore. Timed to the second, these driving tests are tight and great fun and no damage can be done. The club run the tests as part of their own Autotest and ‘Club’ Championship. AUTOCROSS
BECC have staged a round of the ever-popular ANECCC North-East Autocross Championship for more years than we care to remember and produced a few worthy champions of our own along the way. In simple terms this is basically racing on a grass or stubble field circuit against the clock which produces some fast and very exciting racing. Over the past seven years, the club have successfully promoted a well subscribed Autocross Championship of their own.. the Borders Autocross Championship, this consists of ten rounds staged at various locations in the Borders and North-East of England. The Championship has continued support from Border High Performance of Norham and JS45 of Berwick-upon-Tweed w Contact: George Hay on (01573) 225737 e-mail: george@borderecosse.co.uk STAGE RALLIES The club promote two special stage rallies annually, the first, the C.A.R. Centre Of Kelso supported ‘Charterhall Stages’ - a single venue rally staged on the old wartime airfield and former racing circuit at Charterhall. The second being the ‘Jim Clark Memorial Rally’ - a round of the Pirelli British Rally Championship and the ‘New Pig’ Scottish Rally Championship. This ‘closed public road’ event, the first to be staged on mainland Britain is jointly organised with our close neighbours at Berwick & District Motor Club. w For Charterhall Stages Information, contact: Caroline Hay on (01573) 225737. RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP Border Ecosse also promote the ‘Scottish Borders’ Rally Championship. This highly popular series is made up of 12 rounds staged on a mixture of tarmac and forest venues throughout Scotland and draws a fair number of competitors from all parts of Scotland and the North-East of England. Contenders will also have the added chance to contest 5 forest and 7 tarmac rounds in two separate challenges within the Championship. All five forest rounds make up the Anderson (Builders) Forest Rally Challenge. Invaluable support for this year’s championship comes from the our long-time sponsor Anderson the Builders of Chirnside.
